The solo works of Cuban guitarist-composer Leo Brouwer are adventurous music, filled with imagination and ingenious treatment of the instrument. These concertos show a drastically different approach to the instrument and to the art of music; they are very mild-mannered, emotionally and musically conservative pieces which sound like superior pops concert music. If that’s what you like, you’ll find this CD an entertaining way to pass an hour, and it’s more vividly recorded than the RCA version of No. 3 played by Julian Bream and conducted by the composer.
